What is CBD?
CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring, non-toxic, non-psychoactive compound extracted from the cannabis plant and is safe to use in both humans and animals. All our products at cbDNA are free from the use of GMOs, pesticides, herbicides, and harmful chemicals. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). It is extracted directly from the hemp plant, which is a relative of the marijuana plant. While is a compound found in marijuana (one of many), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the WHO (World Health Organisation):
“In humans, Exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
In fact, it seems that it can be beneficial to many different people, including children and even pets, for a wide range of conditions. This includes things like autism, anxiety, depression, arthritis, and many more. Research is ongoing to see what could be added to this ever-growing list. This is the answer to what is CBD.
How CBD products are made
All CBD products are extracted from the cannabis plant, using solvents like CO2. During the extraction, all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids are stripped from the plant. These are dissolved in oil to make it easier to administer and store. What happens with the cannabinoids after the initial extraction determines if the extract is Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, or isolate. Each term refers to the degree the product was processed. It is important to know what exactly you are looking at when browsing products, as there are many different types and versions available around the world. Hopefully, that answers the question of “what is CBD?”.
